Mustang II - S/N 1148 1148 was started in Oct, 1982 by Hank Johnson of Georgia, USA. It looks like he built the center section within a year, but then the detailed records peter out. An A&P inspected and signed off the vertical and horizontal stabilizers in mid 1984. I don't know when Hank sold it, or how many other owners it went through, but Mark Brandt of Arkansas sold it to Erich Holan in 2005. By this stage most of the airframe components had been completed, but little assembly performed. Erich imported it to Austria, where he stored it temporarily under a marquee, which blew down and damaged the partially finished empenage. At that point the project was moved to a farmers barn for a year till Erich sold it to Christian and myself. We received finished tail surfaces, an empenage which was cleco'd together but need a new RH skin and three frames repaired. A partially assembled center section , all the remaining fuselage frames and skins, untouched factory wing kit with the wet leading edges in their original transport case, a composite 25 gal fuselage tank, all the gear comonents except the brakes, Cessna rudder pedals, the folding wing kit, a T18 canopy with quite a few scratches and no windscreen, most of the flight control bellcranks, a nearly complete set of plans (missing 240.002 and 240.009) and building manuals plus a nearly complete set of plans and for the Midget Mustang. Curiously in the box of manuals was a set of original photos covering the building of "Green Apple". Christian is working on getting the engine change (Rotax 912 instead of VW) finished on his KR-2S, and I have no garage, so initially I will just be bringing home one part at a time, inspecting them for compliance to the plans, and cleaning them up. Once I run out of finished parts, I'll get stuck into turning up the control rod end fittings.
